Special Educational Needs
Rosehill Junior School prides itself on providing an inclusive, engaging and safe learning environment for all its pupils. We value the achievements and enrich the abilities of all our children whilst committing to providing, for each child, the best possible environment for learning. It is important to us that our children develop the foundations to lead them into adulthood and be successful in all they do as confident individuals with essential life skills.
Our SEND Coordinator is Lauren Brown who works collaboratively with the Head and the Inclusion Team. Our SENDCo is responsible for overseeing the provision and implementation of the Special Educational Needs Policy and co-ordination of specific provisions made to support individual children with Special Educational Needs. Effective collaboration and communication is key and the SENDCo liaises regularly with all staff to observe and monitor the pupils’ progress and support planning or further interventions where progress is slower than expected. Our SENDCo will maintain and have regular contact with a wide range of external agencies to obtain more specialised advice to support pupils with suspected or confirmed additional needs.

Defenitions of SEN and Disability SEND
At Rosehill Juniors, we use the definition for SEN and for Disability from the SEND Code of Practice (2014). This defines the following classifications:
SEN: A child or young person has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. A learning difficulty or disability is a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age. Special educational provision means educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for others of the same age in a mainstream setting in England.
Disability: Many children and young people who have SEN may have a disability under the Equality Act 2010 – that is ‘…a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.’
