Autumn 1 Week 5 update

Read on for a Year 4, Week 5 update.

It’s been a very busy week in Year 4 as we cross the half-way point of the half term. Read on to find out all the things we have been learning about this week.

  • Maths: We have worked hard to use and estimate with number lines up to 10,000 before moving onto comparing numbers.
  • English: The children have finalised their character descriptions and we are proud of the results. We have started looking at the features of our next text type: a diary entry.
  • Reading: We continued with chapter three of The Iron Man, looking at retrieval, inference and summarising.
  • PE: Our indoor PE focused on basic skills and, despite the weather, the children enjoyed an intensive Marvel-themed workout with Les Mills.
  • Science: The children conducted an experiment to observe the effect that salt has on the rate of melting ice. Please ask your child what their findings were.
  • History: We studied whether or not the Indus Valley was a peaceful civilisation using our skills as historians to analyse evidence.
  • Computing: This week, we studied the features of a website and made some original content using Chrome Music Lab.
  • Spanish: We consolidated our learning of the numbers 1 to 10 and began to study the numbers 11 to 20.
  • Art: We are continuing to focus on block printing inspired by the Great Wave of Kanawanga.

Special Mentions: Well done to Tiana and Tadisa (4H), and Sophie and Yazan (4P) this week for their hard work.

Always Children: Congratulations to Daisy and Roman (4H), and Aleyah A and Isla (4P) for always demonstrating excellent learning behaviour!

Thank you,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
