World War II
As historians, our Y6 have used their research skills, artefacts and a range of historical sources from World War II , to learn about the Blitz, countries involved and the impact it had on our lives today.
The children applied their knowledge from their history lessons, towards their English lessons too, writing newspaper articles about the Blitz, which look fantastic on our corridor displays too.
In Guided Reading, the children have been enjoying ' Goodnight Mister Tom' by Michelle Magorian, which is Set during World War II. It features a boy who is evacuated to the country at the outbreak of the war. In the care of Mister Tom, an elderly recluse, he experiences a new life of loving and care. This story has also helped the children to learn about evacuation too.
