Weekly Update – Spring 1, Week 1
What a fantastic start to the new term! The children have settled back into lessons wonderfully and demonstrated great enthusiasm for learning.
Maths:
This week began with an arithmetic test in which the children performed exceptionally well. We then concluded our unit on multiplication and division, finishing with the end-of-unit assessment.
English:
In English, we introduced a new writing genre: explanations. The children identified key features of explanatory texts and worked on critiquing and improving an example.
Reading:
We started exploring a new fiction text, Street Child. The children engaged with retrieval and inference questions based on the story.
PE:
The new gymnastics unit kicked off this week, with the children focusing on developing individual and partner balances.
History:
Our new topic on the Industrial Revolution and Victorians began with an exploration of Victorian society, comparing the lives of the rich and the poor.
RE:
The children learnt about how Christians use music in worship.
Art:
We started a new project focusing on the artist Lowry. The children studied his life and work, including analysing his piece Coming from the Mill and answering questions about it.
Special Mentions:
Congratulations to Joseph and Erin (4H), and Isla and Dennis (4P) for their outstanding efforts this week!
Thank you for your continued support.
